Andrew Begay

Andrew Begay

A talented flute maker of the Diné people.

The flute inlay represents the moment just before sunrise.

This flute also came to me with a detour, a flute player who had ordered a flute from him had not received it. So he sent her a new one.

But after a long time the flute arrived at its destination. Sending it back entailed additional costs. So she tried to find a new home and put the flute on Facebook, so I responded to her message and this is how this beautiful flute came into my possession.

Below a song with the flute Andrew before dawn because the inlay of the flute symbolizes this.

The holes of this flute are burnt to the springs, there are 3 prayer stones for protection.

Butternut or White Chestnut

The White Walnut or Butternut in a native tree in America

The butternuts are edible and were made into buttery oil by Native Americans for various purposes, including anointing. The young green nuts, while still soft, can be peeled and pickled. Syrup can be made from the juice.

Butternut wood is lightweight and can be polished well, and does not rot easily, but it is much much softer than black walnut wood. Oiled, the grain of the wood usually shows a lot of light. It is often used to make furniture and is a favorite of woodcarvers.

Butternut bark and nut shells used to be commonly used to dye fabrics in colors between light yellow and dark brown. The skins contain a natural yellow-orange dye. To produce the dark colors, the bark is boiled to concentrate the color. This appears to have never been used as a commercial dye, but rather was used to color home-spun fabric.
